GUARDING THE GOOD DEPOSIT

This is our 2 Timothy series called GUARDING THE GOOD DEPOSIT. Paul wrote this letter knowing he was going to die soon, and we can see what was in the forefront of his mind. Paul was imprisoned in Rome and knew that he would be executed for preaching about Jesus. We see from His letter that he had an urgency and a grief, knowing that his end was near.

In his letter to Timothy Paul urged and encouraged him in these ways:

1.To guard the good deposit of the gospel. Timothy was encouraged to pass on the truth of Jesus that he had heard, so that others would faithfully pass it on.
2.To be equipped by the Scriptures (in the power of the Spirit) so that he could preach it and use it to correct, rebuke and encourage others.
3.To be aware of false teaching. Timothy needed to know how destructive it was to get caught up in foolish quarrels and the resulting depravity. But Paul wanted false teachers to be instructed gently, in the hope that they would be granted repentance.
4.To suffer for the gospel. Paul had been deserted by many of his friends and co-workers during his imprisonment. So he invited Timothy to suffer with him, be strengthened by Jesus’ grace, confident in character and power, knowing that he needed to endure to the end as a faithful servant who would be rewarded by the Lord.

We hope you'll be encouraged and challenged. If you have, please leave a comment to share and encourage others.
